Ok. It’s time. For ‘What Is Amy Reading’! Have you missed me? I have missed you so much. But it’s not because I haven’t been reading. I have been reading a lot. And that’s what made this choice so hard! There are a couple of books that just really spoke to me and were in that place where I needed them this summer.

So imagine, for 31 years, having a very predictable cadence to your life. You wake up at this time, you go to the job of your passion, you end at this time. And now a new cadence has developed. And it’s not a bad cadence, it’s just new! It’s different! So, I was going through a little bit of a cadence issue. And so during that cadence issue, I stumbled across a book that I must share with you and I think it’s going to be one of your favorites too.

It is by Marcus Aurelius, the stoic philosopher of way, way, way, way, way back when. And you’re going to love this because it’s some of these things, you could call it common sense, you could call it good life principles, but they’re there when you need them and it’s his excerpts on observations of life and how to ground ourselves and become the person we know we want to be. And also remember who we already are. And that’s an important one.

So, enjoy Marcus Aurelius. It is very thin and it’s written in these very small excerpt paragraphs. As you know, me, I like books that are digestible. I don’t want something that I’m going to wonder ‘oh my gosh, when is this book going to end’. So it’s very digestible.

I’m going to share with you one of my favorite quotes that really, still, I am reading on a daily basis as part of my own meditations. And here it is:

“There is a limit to your time. And if you do not use it to clear your mind, it will pass and you will pass with it”.

It’s this reminder that time is a gift that we are given. And how are you going to use it? And I love how he says ‘use it to clear your mind’. When your mind is clear, suddenly the answers present themselves.
